Frequently Asked Questions
Is Traditional Chinese Medicine and Acupuncture safe?
When performed by a licensed acupuncturist, T.C.M is very safe. It is much gentler than western medicine in the sense that it guides the body to heal itself. Acupuncture needles are sterile and single use only.
Is acupuncture painful?
When performed by a seasoned practitioner, the needle insertion is hardly felt. The patient may feel a dull aching sensation once the needles are inserted. Many people have a sensation of energy moving within their bodies. For most people acupuncture is painless and even better, is very soothing and relaxing.
How big are acupuncture needles?
Acupuncture needles are approximately 50 times thinner than hypodermic needles (the needles used to give you a vaccine shot). They are sterile, single-use only and smoothly glide through the skin without causing much discomfort.
How many treatments do I need before I see results?
Improvements depend highly on how long you have had the condition and your overall health. In general, chronic conditions take longer than acute conditions to see improvements. During your initial visit, we will discuss the recommended number of visits necessary to see results. We prioritize efficiency, affordability, and effectiveness by obtaining more results with the least amount of visits.
How often do I need to come in for treatment?
Frequency of treatment depends on the type of condition. Acute conditions tend to respond better to 2 times a week treatment for a short period of time. Chronic or long-standing conditions generally require once a week treatments for a longer period of time.
Does acupuncture have any side-effects?
Acupuncture has minimal side-effects, making it a very gentle and natural way to achieve better health.
Acupuncture may cause minor swelling, bruising, bleeding, discoloration of skin, or fainting. Light-headedness may occur after the treatment. Bruising from the acupuncture needles is not harmful/painful, and will begin to clear up after about a few days. The licensed acupuncturist is trained to handle any problems that arise from the treatment.
